It's interesting to note how people have interpreted this. I think I may have made it a bit confusing. I meant it to look like he died at panel 4, then a few hours later you see the fireworks, then a shot showing how his body is still there lying alone. However, I really think it looks more like the way everyone is seeing it and that too is an interesting interpretation, just a much longer time of holding onto life.

I ended up not leaving this week as planned so I worked on this major project. , , , are all quite fervent in the belief that Snape being left alone in the shrieking shack while Hogwarts celebrated its victory was a pretty rotten thing to do and I agree. Who's to say he wasn't still alive for a while after Harry had left? I wanted to bring the scenario to sharp relief. What would be the last things going through Snape's head? Probably utter abandonment. I imagined him having one last memory that wouldn't leave him even though Harry gathered most of them; one last thought to just drive home the feeling of painful isolation: A memory of himself seeing Lily and James walking away hand in hand. It never hurts to express the tragedy of this scene again. Correction: It always hurts
